Good Feeling
I'm guilty of posting a lot of negative stuff about my work here.
So let's have a happy story instead.
Today, a young lady came to my office. She gave me a very sweet card, and a gift. She thanked me for the help I've given her over the last six months. She told me that on the strength of the time we've spent together, she has completely re-thought her future career.
It quite brought a tear to my eye. Because while this doesn't entirely make up for the weeks on end where I've worked 12 hour days, and spent my Saturday nights with my nose in books, it certainly shows me that I'm doing a decent job. And that I'm making a difference to the people I'm dealing with.
That makes me feel quite proud of myself.
I have since been reliably informed that I have committed two fairly major faux pas. Firstly, accepting the gift could be deemed a bribe. And secondly, I gave the young woman a hug as she left, since I won't see her again. (In my defence, she hugged me first - I could hardly leap back, shrieking about inappropriate behaviour.)
I'll possibly confess to those misdemeanours on Monday. Maybe. Tonight, I'm going to be guzzling her Thorntons, and basking in my own glory.
In other news, the hair got a huge thumbs up. I received more compliments - as well as second glances - than I have in months. I am pleased to report that no women made passes at me.

Inappropriate hugging in the workplace - where have I seen that before?
Don't Give Up (we're proud of you) - Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush
I like that - eat the chocs first, think about confessing later :-)
Glad to hear about the reaction to the 'do - doesn't it just make you feel like a goddess?
Any chance of a picture of the Do?
It's nice to see a post like this :)
Wow. I absolutely LOVE the new do, Cat. It looks stunning. I actually prefer it to the bob if I'm honest. You have lovely, small features to be able to carry off this look and it makes your beautiful eyes even more noticeable.
Thanks so much for sharing a pic...
You gorgeous thang, you ;-)
Lins x
How nice of that girl to show her appreciation in that way!
The hair looks fantastic, it really does suit you!
WOW, your hair looks BEAUTIFUL!
it really, really suits you.
Sod the bloody inappropriateness. It's human. And it's probably your humanness which has made such an impression. I say GO CAT.
And the hair ROCKS.
I may just say GO CAT again for good measure.
YAY!
Just gorgeous.
You Take My Breath Away - Rex Smith
The hair looks great!
Cool hair missus. You rock vastly. x
Loving the do.
And also- I got loads of stuff from students. it was always to say thanks, or when I had my babies or when I left. Whirlwind gets heaps too. Bribery my ass. I imagine any student would be very insulted if pressies were refused. Much less accused of tyring to bribe someone. Eat the chocs, be proud of making a difference to someone and tell none of the up-their-own-arse-brigade.
Are that lot going to completely erase all that is affirming about teaching??? Pah!
Mr Farty, I'm proud of myself. And thanks!
CB, it's been really interesting. People have been falling over themselves to say nice things!
Cody Bones, done. For a limited time only.
Hen, few and far between, I know. Must try harder.
Lindsay, Alison and Janey, thanks!
London Girl, that's a brand of pet food, I think. When are you going to start writing again - I miss your blog.
Stef, I miss your blog too. This is like a reunion post!
Timbo, is that Brighton rock?
Misssy, apparently there's a policy on the intranet about it - my room-mate told me. I've not got time to search those things out, so I suppose I could plead ignorance. And thanks!
Fabulous photo, amazing hair! You really look great, Cat.
Cat
Ah, didn't know. That clearly proves I don't own one (a cat, that is). Anyway, you rock.
V.nice of you to say that you miss my blog - but I don't think I am going to start it up again. It caused the painful demise of one beautiful budding relationship and I'm not willing to risk that again.
Friends have suggested creative writing instead and am pondering the idea for the moment.
Amazing! Love the hair.
Very nice hair! Very similar to my own hair actually (well, just after it's been cut. It's grown out a bit at the moment, but off to the hairdresser's on Saturday, so I'll soon be looking pixie-ish again)
I think it was fine that you took the gift and hugged the girl. I mean, what could you do? Throw it back at her, and scream "Don't touch me! Don't touch me!" Political correctness really has gone too far.
I love, love LOVE your new do! I'm so jealous, I wish I could carry off a pixieish cut like that.
And well done on the work front too...
Out of a Bottle and Del, thanks!
London Girl, I'm not a cat owner myself, but I am a slave to branding/advertising, and it rings a bell. Sorry to hear that your blog got you in hot water (I must delete that photo on that note). Creative writing sounds like it might be worth a shot?
SM, I have the world's fastest growing hair, so I hope this doesn't end up being even more high maintenance than my bob was. My hairdresser's suggested I will be able to go to six weeks rather than five, so we'll see if I end up with a mullet...
Teeny, it's not dissimilar to the barnet you're sporting in your profile pic, really...
Damn, I missed it. Miss a little, miss a lot
Cody Bones, I know - I actually put it up there at your request!
